Gov't: CFK misses AMIA ceremonies due to Xi Jinping's visitCabinet Chief Jorge Capitanich explained President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner will be missing Friday’s ceremonies marking the 20th anniversary of the AMIA bombing due to the visit of China’s leader Xi Jinping.Although she will not be present in any of the four events that will commemorate an attack that claimed the lives of 85 people and left hundreds injured in Buenos Aires City, Capitanich defended Ms. Kirchner’s “moral authority” considering the “permanent justice demands” carried out by the president. On July 18, 1994 a car bomb exploded at the entrance of the building of the AMIA Jewish community center marking the start of a period when investigations on the dreadful attack have been even tainted with cover-up allegations involving judicial authorities.Last year, the Kirchnerite administration singed a Memorandum of Understanding with Iran – targeted by most pro-Israel groups as the country responsible for the blast -, in a move praised by some sectors as the first concrete step to shed light on the bombing but strongly condemned by opposition and some AMIA victims’ relatives organizations.
